ADVOCACY
Raising Awareness. Amplifying Voices. Driving Change.
The Rheumatology Society Ghana is committed to improving the lives of individuals living with rheumatic and musculoskeletal conditions through strong advocacy and public engagement. We work to increase awareness, reduce stigma, and influence policies that promote equitable access to care. Our advocacy efforts focus on empowering patients, educating communities, and ensuring that rheumatology remains a priority within Ghana’s healthcare agenda.
Promoting public awareness, patient support, and vital healthcare policy initiatives.

Awareness Campaigns
The Society leads and supports awareness campaigns aimed at increasing public understanding of rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. These initiatives focus on early detection, symptom recognition, and reducing the stigma associated with chronic conditions.
Through community outreach, media engagement, and health education programmes, we strive to ensure that more individuals recognise the importance of seeking timely medical care. Our campaigns also highlight the lived experiences of patients, helping to build empathy and support within society.

Patient Materials
Access to accurate and easy-to-understand information is essential for effective disease management. The Society develops patient-focused educational materials designed to empower individuals with knowledge about their conditions.
These resources cover topics such as symptoms, treatment options, lifestyle adjustments, and long-term care. By providing clear and practical guidance, we help patients make informed decisions and actively participate in their healthcare journey.

Support Groups
Living with a chronic condition can be challenging, both physically and emotionally. The Society supports the development of patient support groups that provide safe spaces for individuals to share experiences, receive encouragement, and access peer support.
These groups foster a sense of community and help reduce isolation, while also connecting patients to valuable information and professional guidance. Through these networks, patients are empowered to manage their conditions with confidence and resilience.

Policy Statements
The Society plays an active role in shaping healthcare policy by developing and promoting position statements on key issues affecting rheumatology care. These statements are informed by research, clinical expertise, and patient needs.
Through engagement with policymakers and stakeholders, we advocate for improved access to treatment, better resource allocation, and the integration of rheumatology into national health priorities.
