Spotting Lupus Early

ABOUT THE SPOTTING LUPUS EARLY PROJECT

The Spotting Lupus Early Project was designed to improve awareness, knowledge, and diagnostic capacity among primary care physicians in Ghana in relation to systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The overarching goal was to promote earlier recognition of lupus, strengthen referral pathways, and ultimately improve patient outcomes nationwide.

This initiative provided a structured platform to educate and equip frontline healthcare providers with practical tools to identify early signs and symptoms of lupus. The programme was adapted from successful international models and tailored to fit Ghana’s unique cultural and healthcare context.

Implemented over a three-month period, the project covered eight core topics delivered through a series of interactive sessions. Resource persons included experts from Ghana, Canada, and South America, ensuring a rich and diverse learning experience.

Participants underwent a baseline pre-course assessment to evaluate their general knowledge of SLE. Each session also included a topic-specific pre-test, followed by a focused presentation, interactive discussions, and a post-test to reinforce learning. At the end of the programme, participants completed a comprehensive post-course assessment to measure knowledge improvement.

The educational programme was accredited by the Medical and Dental Council, further underscoring its quality and relevance to clinical practice.
